It is possible to become a teacher without having to go through the agony of student-teaching.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • College Degree from a four-year institution
  • Clear permanent record
  • Knowledge of a particular subject area
  • previous educational experience
  1. Step 1

    You must attend a four-year institution of learning and earn a degree. Maintaining a 3.O grade-point average is a plus. (Earn a degree in specific subject matter such as English, math, science, history, or psychology for example). Take some of the 100 and 200 level education courses.

  2. Step 2

    Previous experience in an educational environment. Some ideas--become a teacher's aide for a year or two; work (help out) at a learning center (Sylvan, Huntington, etc.)

  3. Step 3

    Create a resume indicating your four-year degree area of study and your past experience.

  4. Step 4

    Read up on various curricula of the grade-level and subject area you want to teach.

  5. Step 5

    Contact independent schools in your area and request an interview.

Tips & Warnings
  • If hired, you will be asked to get finger-printed and a background check will be conducted, so keep your record clean.
