How to Begin Studying the Bible

Growing up in a household that rarely went to church, it wasn't until I was in my late teens that I discovered how amazing and practical the Bible was when applied to everyday life. In this article, I'll share some tips that helped me begin studying the Bible.

Things You’ll Need:

• The desire to read and learn from the Bible on a regular basis.

1. If you're new to the Bible and not very familiar with it (I've been there), a good friend and mentor of mine started me out with Proverbs. There are 31 chapters, allowing a person to read 1-2 chapters a day to get through in a month. Proverbs is very direct and practical, and the chapters are the right length to help you get in the habit of reading on a daily basis.
2. Another great place to start is with sections of the Bible that grab your attention during church services. It only takes a moment to write down the verses and note that you want to go back and get more details later.
3. Over time, you may consider organizing your reading to where you can read the Bible within a year. There are a lot of on-line resources for this, one of which I'm going to include as a link. It takes some discipline, but I've learned a lot from it.

Tips & Warnings

• Even though my life is very busy (80-90 hour work week between everything I do), I've found that when the spiritual side of my life is right all the other things fall into place.
• Even though it sadly isn't stressed and sometimes even discouraged in formal education, faith in God plays a major role in many areas of success. Don't neglect it because God really does want you to prosper and have a good life. How to accomplish that is literally in the Bible.
