Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- A card
- A gift
- Small business owners, give 2 hours off [larger businesses do not have this option]
Step1
Pick out a card. Preferably a card with Administrative Professionals' Day, but a nice thank you card will do too.
Step2
Pick out a gift. A gift basket is always nice and safe. Flowers are also nice. But if your Administrative Professional is passionate about something - make a donation to their favorite cause, get a magazine subscription for them, flowers are safe, some folks think gift cards are impersonal - but who wouldn't like a gas card these days? Whatever you do - KEEP IT EVEN BETWEEN THE STAFF MEMBERS. They will compare gifts.
Step3
Take everyone out for lunch. Or have lunch brought in.
Step4
If you can afford your adminstrative assistant a couple of hours. Give them a couple of hours off. Better yet - make a coupon so they can use it somewhere throughout the year, at their choosing.
Step5
Say THANK YOU. You are their employer, and pay + benefits says a lot about appreciation, but NOTHING will do as well as you taking the time to say, "Administrative Professional(s), it is a pleasure to work with you. You (all) do a good job and you help me do a good job as well. It's not only appreciated on this day, but every day. Keep up the good work." You can rally the troops with a speech like that.

on 6/27/2008 I was an Administrative Assistant for several years. I always appreciated lunch out at a nice restaurant. :) Behind every great boss is an excellent admin assistant!
