How to boost your energy with chia seeds

if you're like most people in the world today, you probably tend to feel worn out or exhausted more than you'd like. sometimes it seems like the only way to get an energy boost is to reach for an extra large coffee or one of those buzz inducing, sugar filled energy drinks. that is no longer the case! It's time you try eating chia seeds. that's right, chia seeds...let me explain how!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • chia seeds
  • water (optional)
  • your favorite food (optional)

Step1
a 1.5 lb bag of chia seeds from thechiaseed.com first you will need chia seeds. even though they are technically the same seed that comes with chia pets, those are not food grade, so you will want to get yours elsewhere. i get mine online at www.thechiaseed.com because they offer free shipping and i have only seen them at a couple health food stores and they are not in the big markets yet. they will be soon though.
Step2
you can eat chia seeds in a variety of ways. you can eat them straight from the bag, mix them with cereal, yogurt, salad, or pretty much any other food because they don't really have a taste, or mix them with water and drink them. when mixed with water, chia seeds cause the water to turn into a gel like substance because each seed can absorb almost ten times it's own weight in water. some people think the seed gel water thing is a little weird, but it's the best way to get the quickest energy boost. all you have to do is mix 2 tablespoons of seeds into a tall glass of water and stir. let it sit for about 10 minutes and then stir it again. by this time the water should be kind of thick and ready to drink down! in mexico, they drink something called chia fresca, which is chia seeds mixed in cold water with lemon juice and sugar added. if you do that, you will get a big boost!
Step3
eat or drink your chia seeds and be prepared for a nice sustained energy boost. on top of the energy you get from chia seeds, they are also a great source of fiber, protein, calcium, and they have more omega-3 content than any other natural source on earth...even 8 times more omega-3 than salmon!
