Dust off the bread maker and put it to use! Making pizza dough in the bread maker is super easy, saves money, and nothing can compare with the taste of a fresh-baked pizza crust! This pizza dough recipe makes enough for a large pizza or five calzones.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • bread maker
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • water
  • olive oil
  • flour
  • sugar
  • salt
  • yeast
  1. Step 1

Put the wet ingredients in the bread maker: 1 1/4 cups of water and 2 T. + 1 t. olive oil.

  2. Step 2

Put the dry ingredients into the bread maker: 3 1/2 cups of flour, 1 T. of sugar, and 1/2 T. of salt.

  3. Step 3

Make a small valley in the center of the dry ingredients and put in 2 1/4 t. of yeast (or one packet).

  4. Step 4

Set the bread maker to the dough setting. When the cycle is done, start it over for a minute or so, letting it run until the pizza dough has just pulled away from the edge of the pan and has formed a ball. Stop the bread maker, sprinkle the ball with a little flour, pull it out and place on a floured board. Let the pizza dough rest and rise for a few minutes before using.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the bread maker sounds like it's struggling at any point, put in another teaspoon of water.
  • Add more salt if you like a saltier pizza crust. Also, you can add some Italian herbs, such as oregano and basil, if you like an herbed pizza crust.
  • This pizza dough recipe is not "thin & crispy"; it produces a breadier, softer crust.
  • Pizzas and calzones made with this pizza dough recipe freeze well so I make a few batches while doing once a month cooking and add them to my stash of freezer meals.
  • If you follow the tips in my article, "How to save on ingredients for homemade bread and pizza", each pizza crust is only 39 cents per pizza!
