How to make buttercream frosting

You will learn everything you need to know about making buttercream frosting, which is great for cakes, and cupcakes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margerine softened
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. Step 1

    In a large bowl, beat butter, shortening, and powdered sugar, with electric mixer on low until blended.

  2. Step 2

    Add milk, and vanilla on medium speed until smooth, add more milk in small amounts if not smooth enough.

  3. Step 3

    Add coloring if you wish. Makes right around 3 cups of frosting.

on 5/16/2008 Butter and shortening in the recipe that is a good idea. I usually see either one or the other in a recipe. Thanks I will try this.
