When surfing on internet watching online videos/movies, you may want to download a copy of that in your computer so that you still enjoy it anytime without connecting to internet. If your browser is Firefox, you can try many different and useful Add-ons to download the online videos from web sites, including YouTube, MySpace, Google videos, iFilm, Porkolt, DailyMotion, DreamHost and many others.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Firefox (web browser)

Step1
FireFox2 If you are not a FireFox user, go to "http://www.mozilla.com/", the official site of FireFox developer, to get it. Installation is easy and simple.

If you are already a FireFox user, move to step 2 directly.
Step2
Connect to the official FireFox Add-ons web site,
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ , and click on "download management" on left panel followed by using key word "Video" to search add-ons.

Or, the simplest way is to use key word, Video DownloadHelper, to find this add-on, which I strongly recommend.
Step3
Once you find the add-on that you like or you just want to take my advice and get "Video DownloadHelper", click on "Add to FireFox".
Step4
The installation is quick and automatic once you clicked on "Add to FireFox". The browser would restart and now you are ready to download videos.

Now you see a new icon is added between the web address and search boxes. You can connect to YouTube and click on any video you like. As the video plays, you can see the "icon of Video DownloadHelper" is moving around and an "arrow" shows up next to the icon. Click on it and save the video you are watching. (see image of Step4 to find out the location of icon).

You don't need to finish the watching. Even you move to next video, the Add-on still working background to download the file.
Step5
For some embedded movies you download, especially in flv or other formats, you may not be able to open it with Windows media player (the one people normally use).
Check my the other article "How to watch flv, rmvb, wmv, mkv, avi..etc movies with just one powerful media player" for more detail.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can try other video download add-ons. The one I introduced here is the best I used to far.

on 5/15/2008 Great tip,but its downloading speed is not very fast.I'd rather sniff the video address and then download them in some tools.
