How to Prevent Rosacea Flushing and Redness
Rosacea is a skin condition in which blood vessels in the face tend to widen and engorge with blood. It can turn your face as red as a candy apple. Because no one knows exactly what causes rosacea, it's not possible to cure it or even prevent symptoms totally: It is a chronic condition that comes and goes. Nevertheless, there are several things you can do to prevent flareups, especially if you know what triggers your own outbreaks.

1
Follow the treatment plan that your doctor has provided, whether it includes medications, topical treatments, or lifestyle changes. Even when you're not experiencing a flare-up, continuing your treatment plan is important to prevent another flare-up.
-
2
Choose skin-care products carefully. Use a gentle liquid facial cleanser, such as Cetaphil or a cleanser recommended by your doctor. Avoid products with alcohol.
-
3
Clean your face gently -- use a soft cloth, and never scrub. Be sure to pat dry gently as well.
-
4
Avoid abrasives, such as facial scrubs, loofa sponges, or brushes. All abrasives will irritate your skin and cause redness.
-
5
Select cosmetics developed for sensitive skin. Cosmetics that are talc-free are the best choice. These products are widely available at drug stores. Be sure to read the label.
-
6
Stay in the shade as much as possible. The sun and becoming overheated can both quickly set off a flare-up. Always use sunscreen and wear a sun hat or visor.
-
7
Spicy food is known to trigger flushing. Avoid spicy foods made with chili peppers, hot sauce, and horseradish as much as possible.
