1. # Check the credibility of the person or company by entering the company as well as keywords such as "complaint" or "scam" into a search engine such as google.ca. This will ensure that any past troubles with the company can be found out about.
2. # Try and find refrences from people who have already been customers to the company
3. # Check these websites for past scams and more info about the company: www.bbb.org (Better Business Bureau), www.scambusters.com, or www.fraud.org
4. # Find out how long the company has been in business. Did it just suddenly pop up and will it suddenly disappear?
5. # Pay by check so you can stop payments in the event of a scam
6. # BE VERY CAUTIOUS about a company that asks for money up front.
7. # When submitting payment, do it by "signature required". this ensure that you must receive a street address rather than a P.O. box. Companies will not be able to dissapear easy if you have an address.
