Things You'll Need:
- Swim suits or shorts and t-shirts
- Old tennis shoes or water shoes
- Water hose
- Sprinkler
- Timer
-
Step 1
Have the children put on swim suits or shorts and t-shirts. Be sure these are not brand new clothes, as this game can get pretty them dirty. Have them put on old tennis shoes or water shoes to protect their feet from sticks and stones in the yard.
-
Step 2
Choose one of the children to be the water guard. You can do this by age, guessing a number, coin toss or whatever method your family may use. Decide how the children will take turns being the water guard.
-
Step 3
Attach the water hose to the outdoor faucet. Attach the sprinkler to the water hose. Place the sprinkler where the lawn needs watering. Explain to the children that you will move the sprinkler when it's time.
-
Step 4
The water guard is in charge of the outdoor faucet. When he says, “Go!” all the other children, run around the yard – near the sprinkler, acting silly and making funny faces. They must freeze in position when the water guard randomly turns on the sprinkler. The play continues with each child getting to be the water guard.
-
Step 5
Set the timer for how long that area of the yard needs to be watered. Keep the timer where it can be heard. When the timer goes off, move the sprinkler to a different location in the yard and let Sneaky Sprinkler continue.

on 5/12/2009 We used to play sneaky sprinkler but it was usually one of the older kids and we weren't really prepared for it to go on. :-)
