Creating a fun and healthy way of including proper nutrition into a lunch box for your children as well as yourself can be fun. There are many great tasting alternatives to include the necessary nutrients that you need to perform at your best at midday. Here are a few ideas that you are sure to find delicious ....

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
First think of the basics that you use, breads. If you use white bread turn to wheat, multi-grain and healthier variations. Even using pita bread can change the way you view the same old sandwich.
Step2
Instead of using prepackaged fruits and vegetables, try cutting some fresh fruit and veggies and place them into your lunch box. Next think about healthier snacks that will give you natural energy such as granola, nuts, dried fruits, yogurt, cheese, etc.
Step3
Instead of sodas and juices try replacing them with water. After all water is what our bodies need to hydrate and stay healthy. If they are very active then put a sports drink in their lunch or your own like Gatorade.
Step4
Limit the amount of sweets that you place in your lunch box. Instead of sugary snacks try replacing them with healthy choices like those listed above. The main thing to keep in mind is that your lunch box needs to contain things that you or your children WILL eat! Just because you put healthy things into your lunch box does not mean that they are the things that will get eaten.
Step5
To help your child become a bit more excited about eating a healthier alternative in their lunch box, make them a part of creating the menu. Give them some choices and allow them to help you pack their lunch. If they feel they helped in the process they may be more eager to enjoy the options that they have chosen.
Step6
Reading the ingredients on the products that you buy will allow you to see the amount of fat and sodium in the foods your family is eating. So pay attention to the labels before buying the item.
Step7
Many people tire of the same old thing day after day, so find a variety of fresh and healthy items that you and your family enjoy. Have fun creating a nutritious lunch for everyone!

on 8/17/2008 The granola, nuts, dried fruits, yogurt, and cheese-part is the best part for me. Nowadays its easy to mistake wholesome energy bars loaded with cereals and nuts for those junk chocolate bars. Good work here!
