Find a Makeup Artist at a Cosmetic Counter

If you've been wearing the same makeup for years and you'll ready for a change, you may want to consider enlisting the help of a cosmetic counter makeup artist. Not only are their services free, they can keep you informed of any specials that might be running in their particular cosmetic line. But how do you find a make over artist at a cosmetic counter that will meet you needs? Here are some suggestions.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Study the makeover artists at the cosmetic counters.

Visit your local department store and take a close look at the makeup artists you see behind the cosmetic counters. Do any of them have a look you'd like to emulate? If you like a soft natural, almost no makeup look on your own face, avoid choosing a makeup artist that applies her own makeup with a heavy hand. When you find a cosmetic artist that has a similar look to what you might want to achieve, take one of her business cards for future reference. Ask what hours she works and if she's part-time or full-time. It's usually best to deal with a full-time artist.

  2. Step 2

Consider the product line she represents.

The cosmetic counter make over artists generally represent a single cosmetic line and will probably feel most comfortable applying those products. For this reason, choose an artist who represents a line you appreciate and afford. If you're budget minded when it comes to cosmetics, don't select a makeup artist who represents the ultra-expensive Chanel line.

  3. Step 3

Schedule a consultation with several makeover artists.

The best way to find the right person to transform your look is to schedule several different consultations. At these consultations, plan on getting to know the makeup artist's personal philosophy and the vision she has for transforming your face. Let her know on the initial consultation you don't plan on buying anything, you just want to see what she can offer you. Once you've talked to several different artists, you can select one to schedule a full appointment for makeup application. Be sure to select a make over artist who listens to you and doesn't just want to sell you her own vision or product line.

  4. Step 4

    Consider alternative outlets.

If you're not comfortable with any of the makeup artists at your local department stores, pay a visit to a Merle Norman Studio in your area. You can get a free consultation in a more relaxed environment. Other considerations are makeup artists at your local hair salon or a local Mary Kay or other independent makeup rep. Be sure they have the training you're looking for.
