You will learn here the various types of extended-stay furnished housing in Portland, Oregon and in every other city in America, and how to find them. Extended-stay housing is commonly for periods of one month or more, usually comprised of people who are moving to a new city, have a longer term project here, or for many other reasons.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
One option is to stay in extended-stay furnished apartments, condos and houses. They represent the higher cost way to stay for periods of one month or more, but they offer total privacy. Some are run by giant companies like Oakwood and smaller firms, while others are individually-owned units that can be found in directories or on Craigslist in the Sublets/Temp section of the city you are wanting to travel to.
Step2
A relatively new option is to stay in extended-stay guest houses. These are houses that are hosted by the owner and that offer low-cost stays of one month or more....usually one to four months. They generally cater to singles and sometimes couples.  While not a private as having your own place, you get to meet others from all over the country and world. You share the kitchen and laundry and usually a bathroom, except some have private bathrooms. Complete with WiFi. And like all stays of one month or more there are no transient taxes to pay. Check on Craigslist in the Sublets/Temp section to find these. They can be as small as having just one guestroom, on up to having 5 or more guestrooms.
Step3
Extended-stay hotels are another alternative, but when your stays are over a month it is usually nicer to stay in residential property as illustated in the above two steps.

Tips & Warnings

  • Arrange your housing before you leave your city, booking it well in advance.
  • check things that are important to you, such as location, TV's in the bedrooms, parking, public transportation, etc..
  • For guesthouses, find out if they have pets there in case you don't want to be around animals.
