Although potent, garlic is one of the most singular spices and uber important when called for in a recipe. Fresh garlic is always your best option, but how do you get it out of that funny-looking clove?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • garlic clove
  • garlic mincer or knife & cutting board
  1. Step 1

Break off one section. Press hard pushing sideways. The first one is the hardest.

  2. Step 2

Lay the wedge flat on a hard surface (counter-top or cutting board).

  3. Step 3

Press down with your thumb on the side of the wedge until the outer waxy casing begins to crack.

  4. Step 4

Peel off casing. Be sure to get it all; there are usually many layers.

  5. Step 5

    Place in mincer.

  6. Step 6

Crank handle to press the garlic through.

  7. Step 7

    Scrape off with a knife.

  8. Step 8

Repeat steps 6 and 7 until entire garlic wedge had been minced.

  9. Step 9

If you do not have a mincer, cut wedge as finely as possible. Then press down with the flat side of the knife to release the juices.
