How to Choose A Pet Groomer

How do you choose a pet groomer? You walk in with your pet and hope for the best right? Well there can be more risk than you might think in taking Fluffy or Fido to get a fur cut. Pets can easily get an infection if the groomer isn't careful or isn't trained properly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the pet grooming salon. Don't be afraid to ask questions and look around. Do the groomers seem relaxed around the pets? Ask how they handle emergencies. How long have they been in the pet grooming business? Have they had any formal training?

  2. Step 2

Next look around the shop. Is it clean? Is it very chaotic? What are the hours of operation and does it fit with your work schedule or can you make an appointment on your day off? Do you need to be present while Fluffy gets groomed or can you be present. I recommend against this if you are so nervous that your pet is going to freak because you are giving out nervous vibes.

  3. Step 3

Taking Fluffy to meet the groomer a couple of times will also relieve some of the tension that the pet will feel at new surroundings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Go with your gut. If you or your pet is just too uncomfortable with a salon or groomer then look for another. An animal sees things from a different perspective from us. Something we wouldn't pay any attention to can freak an animal. So pay attention to your pets reaction as well as your own.
