Soft, Chewy and Gooey Rice Krispy Treats

Rice Krispy treats are a great snack for the whole family. Once you make them, they can sometimes turn out to be hard as rocks. With my proven methods, your Rice Krispy Squares will always be perfectly soft and delicious for days.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rice Krispy or Favorite dry Cereal
  • 10 oz Bag of Marshmallows
  • 1/2 stick of Butter or 4 TBSP of margarine.
  • greased pan or cookie sheet
  • pot
  1. Step 1

First gather all of your measured out ingredients. The process is quick, so you must have all of your ingredients ready. Make sure your grease your pan first, so once you are finished mixing the ingredients you can pour warm mixture onto cookie sheet or pan.

  2. Step 2

Start by melting your butter or margarine into a large pot on low heat. Allow to mostly melt down.

  3. Step 3
    Melted marshmallow and butter

    Melted marshmallow and butter

Add 1 10 oz bag of marshmallows to pot when butter is mostly melted. Mix the butter and marshmallows. Coat all of the marshmallows with the butter. Let the marshmallow melt slowly, but NOT completely. The melted marshmallow and butter should still have marshmallow lumps. (See Photo)

  4. Step 4

When marshmallows are mostly melted, urn off stove and immediately add 7-8 cups of Rice Krispy cereal. (7 cups for really gooey treat squares).
mix cereal into melted marshmallows. Mix from the bottom up, evenly coating the cereal with the marshmallows.

  5. Step 5

Quickly pour onto greased cookie sheet. Spread out the mixture onto the cookie sheet evenly. DO NOT PRESS DOWN. Pressing down the mixture will result in hard square treats.

  6. Step 6

Allow to cool for an hour before cutting squares. The squares will stay soft and gooey for several days. Store in greased tupperware for freshness.

  7. Step 7

    Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Substitute Rice Krispy cereal for Cheerios, Fruity Peebles or Cocoa Crisp.
  • Drizzle chocolate ganache on top for a more decadent treat
  • Cook on LOW heat
  • Do Not allow marshmallows to melt down completely
  • Do Not press down warm mixture once you pour onto cookie sheet or pan

on 12/17/2009 WOW!!!This was so easy... I had never mad these before but I thought they would be a great idea for my sons cub scout meeting the other night...I tried another recipe the other night, IT DID NOT WORK...they were so super sticky that i could not spread them out...them they were hard as a rock, needless to say we did not sever them at the meeting, instead we bought little debbie rice crispy treats and decorated them to make them christmas-y. today I found your recipe and they turned out perfect and so easy...THANKS!!! Wish I would have had this the other night..I also added green food coloring to give them the christmas look...very good!!!
