Floral sachets can bring back memories of opening the drawers in Grandmother’s dressing table; that soft fragrance that lingered on her clothes when she hugged you close. Making floral sachets is very easy and can be a beautiful gift. Be sure to keep a few for yourself, so you can tuck them into your own dresser drawers.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pieces of lacy material
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Large bowl, either metal or glass
  • Potpourri or dried flower petals
  • Metal spoon
  • Essential oil whose fragrance matches the flowers or potpourri
  • Small rubber bands
  • Narrow ribbon
  1. Step 1

Choose a lacy material; it doesn’t have to be whole pieces. Be sure to select material with lace that is a fine weave. This will keep the potpourri or dried flower petals from falling through.

  2. Step 2

Cut the material into 6 inch squares or circles with a diameter of 6 inches. It doesn’t have to be a precise measurement, but you want it big enough to be gathered around the potpourri or flower petals and still have room for the ribbon.

  3. Step 3

Pour the potpourri or dried flower petals into a large bowl. Lightly sprinkle the essential oil over and toss with the spoon. Repeat if the fragrance is not to your liking.

  4. Step 4

Lay the square or circle of lace flat. Scoop some of the potpourri in the center of the lace. Gather the edges of the lace and twist tightly over the potpourri or flower petals. Secure with a small rubber band.

  5. Step 5

Cut a short length of narrow ribbon, about 7 to 8 inches and tie over the rubber band. Make a pretty bow and trim the excess.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a flower garden, collect the faded petals from your flowers. Let them dry and use them to make the sachets.
  • Floral sachets are simple enough for children to make as gifts.
  • Supervise children when using scissors or sprinkling essential oil onto the flower petals.
