Step1
The first thing to keep in mind when going to a new church is whether they share the same beliefs as you. Consider the following as examples of items to consider: sacraments, communion, baptism, marriage, service order, music style, and music lyrics.
Step2
Next, you may consider a church due to specific sports that the church offers. It is possible to be part of a sports league and not be a member. However, some of the players may be an active part of the congregation ... although not necessarily.
Step3
Consider if a church has a specific support group. This will be a great way to get to know a segment of the members. Some support groups a church may offer might include AAA, Divorce Care, Military Support, and groups for various sicknesses. These groups bring people together in like situations.
Step4
Look to see if the congregation or church offers a single group with active activities.
Step5
Next, if applicable, check to see if they have a young adult or college-aged group. This will be important if the members of your family are in this age bracket.
Step6
If you have young children, you may want to see if they offer childcare for specific events, VBS, Children's Church, or other Children's Ministry events.
Step7
If you have a youth, you may see if the church offers mission trips for specific grade levels, youth gatherings, lock-ins, or even regular youth meetings if this is important to your family.
Step8
Some churches even offer events and activities for adults - men and women. Sometimes a church will offer a Father/Daughter event, Women's Tea, or even a weekend trip or retreat. You may want to checkout a church to see your level of involvement before making a commitment or joining a congregation.
Step9
Before attending the first time, see if the location and service times will fit your lifestyle. The service times may also change or evolve at different times of the year and at holidays. Consider checking the website for specifics ahead of time.
Step10
Does the church do community service projects that would allow you to meet more members? What is the 'climate' of the church? Are the people friendly? How do people dress?
