How to Make a Great Mother's Day Gift Using Scrabble Pieces

Having a difficult time trying to find a great personalized Mother's Day gift? This craft project will take some time and a lot of creativity so if you don't have the time to dedicate to making this special this project isn't for you. Typically, you will need 2-3 games worth of letters. Ask your friends and family if they have any old games laying around they don't use or are missing letters to reduce cost. Check websites like Ebay and Craigslist for used games to keep costs down. This project will cost about $50-70 to make depending on how many games you purchase and the quality of your shadow box frame.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

• 2-3 Scrabble Games
• Shadow Box Large Enough For Scrabble Board
• Super Glue or Epoxy
• Family Picture

1. Lay out your family name on the board. Try to work in the word family overlapping the name if possible. If not, work it in later.
2. Build words off the words you've already layed down as you would with typical scrabble. Use words that identify your family. Example: love, cherish, home, girls, boys, brothers, sisters. Be creative!
3. Glue, after all your words are layed out and you are happy with the end product, go ahead and glue all your words down.
4. An hour later, flip the board upside down and shake. Whatever letters pop off you should reglue. You may want to take a picture first with your digital camera if you are unsure how many will actually stick! Many glues will just not work which is why I have recommended super glue and epoxy. (wood glue, surprisingly, does not work!)
5. Glue your family picture on the top left hand corner over the letter points box.
6. Glue the back of your board heavily and stick to the inside of your shadow box.
7. Wrap-up and give to your mom!
