It's that time of year again when we need money for so many things. Maybe your daughter is getting married, or your son is going off to college, or perhaps you want to catch up on some old credit card bills...well when you need extra cash just do what I do, go into the attics and cellars and garages of our lives and sort throught that old clothing. You may find the money you need has been there all along, right in your closest and bins and the storage areas of our lives. Follow my steps and in as quickly as a week or even a day you can be ahead of that financial game.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Patience
  • Interent access
  • A digital camera
  • register with online auction service
  • old clothes/etc.
  • an upbeat personality
  • positivity
Step1
The first step is to get the stuff. Go into the attic or wherever you put those things you no longer wear or can fit into and set them out. What are you willing to part with? Get a stock going.
Step2
Next step is to get online at some of the auction houses like Amazon, or Ebay, or any variety and set up online accounts. It's generally pretty easy. If you set up a paypal account it is much easier to get the higher prices because people can charge on their credit cards, which is perfect when it's an impulse buy and you get the money right quick!
Step3
This Led Zeppeln concert t-shirt sold on Ebay for 8,000.00! Do the research. See what's selling and what's hot. If it's from the 1970s, or a concert t-shirt, don't discard -research. Some of the photos of items I have here sold for over 3,000. I'm not kidding! You can sell a Hawaiian shirt from the 1940's for as much as 8,0000. or an old Emelio Pucci dress for quite a sum. You've no idea what collectors are willing to pay, especially in the fever of an auction. So do the research and then move to the next step.
Step4
Photograph your items and post them on the internet. Don't make the price too high. If you need the money right away, do a "buy it now" feature in which you offer the item at a set price. In this way you won't have to wait for the auction to end.
Step5
Offer to help clean out Grannie's attic or the garage of a neighbor or friend. Very often in exchange for your help you may get to keep some of the things. I once worked a church clothing drive, but I was naiive days and threw away about 100,000.00 worth of rock concert t-shirts (the Church didn't want them in the drive), had I known now what I am telling you, I could've contributed more than my elbow grease to the effort and still had a little money left over for baby. But such is life. So, in order that you don't make the same silly mistake, I give you this secret information now.
Step6
Be as descriptive as you can. If there's a hole in the pocket, don't be afraid to say so. If this is something your buyer wants, believe me, they won't care. Do an advanced search if the site allows it with the word vintage clothing and click the boxes for already sold and listed, Then sort by Highest first. In this way you can see what things sold and what price they sold for. This will help you get a better estimation.
Step7
Have a good time! Don't get too serious. You may need the cash, but if you don't put too much pressure on yourself, this can also be fun. You can make a game out of it and involve your family friends! Heck! I just offered an old lady next door my services to help her sell her late husbands collection of Playboy magazines. She was disgusted when she found them, but now, when she goes to her great-grand daughter's wedding in June, she'll be able to fly first class! There's no end to who you can help and how much fun you can have doing it! Enjoy it!
Step8
Pass this information on to someone else! I really believe that what goes around comes around! And this could actually be your gift to someone else and hey, maybe they'll even give you a cut of the profits? go for it and please have a good time!

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean garments before selling them
  • Get a measuring tape and measure from pit to pit and collar to hem, or however they are listed on the sites you post on
  • Definately get a Paypal account for easy and instant payment (they'll sent you an ATM card after a few months which you can use immediately after the sale posts and payment is made - like a bank card!)
  • Be as honest as possible
  • Get familiar with the post office. I love USPS Priority mail, give you free envelopes, boxes, etc and is quite wonderful.
  • don't give away anything you love
  • learn the interenet business inside and out
  • research, do the homework it will pay off in the end
  • be patient
  • don't get discouraged
  • don't take it personally, just because someone doesn't like your Quava moo moo dress, doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Understand that the internet market changes and what's hot today very often isn't tomorrow and sometimes it works the inverse!
  • Have fun. It isn't worth it if it makes you frustrated or angry.
