Peace of mind about their child's daycare and security.Knowing they've made a really good choice about who and where their child is staying when they can't be with them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
It's best to visit a potential daycare at various times of the day even though it's highly recommended by your best friend. The reason being that you can observe the staff on how they relate to the children and to get the feel of the place .
Step2
Pay attention to the children that are there. Are their needs met and are they happy or engaged in an activity? Are the teachers enthusiastic about being there and have interesting things planned as well as toys are that age appropriate.
Step3
Find out if they are set up for first aid, when their last fire drill was, what requirements the teachers need to have before hiring the staff and what training if on-going that is offered to them like monthly meetings, parent get-togethers,etc.If trips are offered for the children say to ride on a bus or take a walk, find out how that happens and if it is safe with extra staff or helpers, etc.
Step4
Lastly,if you sense this is a good place and your child seems content, then come for circle time or lunchtime and see how your child interacts with both the teachers and the children there. When you come donot wear fancy clothes or bring toys from home. Also bring only healthy foods and drinks. That means no chocolates or candy or sodas please.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will also want to have literature explaining all of the rules and procedures, holidays when they are closed or open and licensing papers available to you.
