Are you going on vacation with your friend(s)? A few years ago I met this girl through my ex boyfriends friend, we are still friends today. Within 3 mths of our friendship we were planning a vacation together. Originally we were goin to Ocean City, then decided to go to Outer Banks, NC because neither of us been there. We went 3 years in row! This is really her strategy and it works well! So I give all credit to her, my friend Lindsay.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Location
  • Money
  • Map
  1. Step 1

Find a decent priced hotel. For me under $100 is great. We stayed in Nags Head at the Tar Heel Motel and is only a short walk across the street to the beach. It was $95/night (it also depends how long your staying whereever you are going and how many beds.) Then plus your tax of course. Whatever the cost of the hotel/motel split it between the number of people that are going, this saves you money!

  2. Step 2

The next biggest thing, Gas money. Always put what money you have towards gas together in an envelope and if you have a console, glove box, etc-stick it in there and keep it there and label it "Gas". That way you have enough to get back home in too. Here is "Lindsay's 7 steps on gas/toll money."

  3. Step 3

    1. Figure out how many miles you will drive total for you trip. This includes getting there and back and any around town driving you will do while you are there.

  4. Step 4

    2. Figure out what you average gas milage is in the vehicle you will be taking.

  5. Step 5

    3. Divide the number you get in step 1 by the number you get in step 2. This is how many gallons of gas you will use for your trip.
Example: You are going to be driving 300 miles and your car gets 30 miles per gallon. You will use 300/30, or 10 gallons of gas for your trip.

  6. Step 6

    4. Multiply the number you get in step 3 by the current price of gas for you total gas money you will need. Us the current price of premium gas, since the price of gas can vary in each state.

  7. Step 7

    5. Be sure to add in an extra $20 for extra tolls or unexpected fees.

  8. Step 8

    6. Divide your total in step 5 by the number of people going on the trip, and be sure to round up to the nearest $5 increment.
Example. If it comes out to $21.43 per person, round to $25. If it comes out to $37.86, round to $40.

    7. Upon returning home whatever gas money is left in the envelope, split it!

  9. Step 9

Going out to eat. Personally when I go on vacation, I dont want to have to cook. Me and my friend we went out to eat for all our meals. Depending where you go, it's normal average prices where you live, but if you want to go to a fancy restraunt, in the tour guides they have coupons--we used one at a Miller Waterfront Restraunt, it was pricey but with the coupon we saved about $6 or more. Coupons are Helpful!

Tips & Warnings
  • Take extra money with you, everyone wants to buy souveniers on vacation! If you want to jetski or other things, keep that in mind as well.
  • The tourist books they have there, most in motel/hotels usually have coupons - that's a HUGE help, especially for eating out.
