Stevia is a small shrub native to portions of Northeastern Paraquay. It is 15 times sweeter than common table sugar. If you are a diabetic this is the sweetener for you...
Stevia is traditionally and primarily a sweetener. It does not change the glycemic index. It has been investigated as an aid in regulating blood sugar metabolism, as an anti-hypertensive agent, as a source of plant growth hormones and flavonoids glycosides, and as an anti-bacterial substance.
Step2
I have used stevia for several years now in my tea, coffee, cider and kool-aid. I feel that it has helped me in my weight loss and maintaining my weight. It can be used with toothpastes, mouth washes, and used on gums as an anti-bacterial. It is also used in candies, gum, baked goods cereals, yogurt and ice cream.
Step3
It truly is an all-natural, low calorie, sugar-free super sweetener. You can purchase it through your local health food store. It is made by the NOW company and the stevia glycerite is the best. It doesn't have a bitter taste and is in liquid form to just drop in your beverage.
Tips & Warnings
In order to use in recipes, you need to acquire recipes already adjusted for its usage.
