Do you remember before you and your spouse were married? Think back to when you two were so in love and everything you did together was fun and brought you closer? Over the years life gets in the way; the bills, jobs, kids and a myriad of other things. Want that special closeness back?

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • An appoinment book or a calendar
  • Time
  • A little bit of money
  • A desire to re-connect with your love for your spouse

Step1
Shall we dance, my Dear? It takes a little work and effort on the part of both of you but you can get the romance back. Try taking dance classes together. You can go to your local township or community center to take dance lessons for a small fee. My husband and I have taken a "Shall We Dance" class together for around $90 for both of us. This class is eight weeks long, one hour in length and each week we learn a new dance. At first you may argue and get frustrated but if you both go and keep an open mind and help each other get the dance moves down together, you will find that you both learn a new respect and understanding for your spouse. This is a great way to help open the lines of communication too. When it's all said and done you will have had some great fun and you will both be able to dance with each at weddings, on vacation, or under the moonlight at your favorite rendezvous.
Step2
Brining out your calmer, more relaxed selves. During the evenings when the weather does not allow for going out or money has you watching every penny try turning the television off, turning on some light music that you both like and crack open a puzzle box. Sit at your dining room table with a glass of wine and put together a puzzle. You will be amazed at the conversation you two can have by sharing in this therapeutic activity. Putting a puzzle together may seem boring but helping each other find a particular piece puts you both on the same side of an endeavor and there's no end to what you both can talk about, hashing out problems, sharing those heart-warming emotions verbally with your love.
Hey, and if a your song comes on the stereo you can practice a little dancing cheek to cheek.
Step3
Nature walks. During the warmer weather, my husband and I like to plan our weekends out. If we don't we never get a chance to do anything. Sign up at your local pool for a pool pass. When you both get home and eat dinner on those hot summer nights, stop by the pool for a little while and relax. It's a great way to break up the weekday monotony and gives you both a chance to unwind from the rigors of every-day life. Plan trips to your local arboretum and botanical gardens and pack a picnic. Although we have gone to both several times throughout the summer months we still love to revisit those places. We both love nature in full bloom and we find a quiet spot and bring books we have on our reading lists to read. When we're done reading we have our picnic or we grab a greasy burger as a treat from the outdoor grill.
Step4
Have a picnic breakfast on your day off together during the warm weather. If you only have one day off together a week, which is Sunday for us, trying taking your lawn chairs out with a little t.v.. table and have breakfast outside in fresh spring air. Listening to the birds and watching the wildlife outside of your home makes time together more precious and helps you both to reconnect with yourselves and each other. You can do this if you balcony, a yard, a deck, or even just a little bit of a front lawn. Don't worry about what others may think, enjoy yourselves. If you do not have access to any of the above because you live in a city, then you can either make your own breakfast or get breakfast to go from a dinner and go to your local forest preserve or park.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use your imagination and seek out your local area happenings. You could go downtown to your city and find free outdoor symphonies going on. Find things to do in your community that will bring you back to nature and to yourself and your love. Bring peace back into your lives. If you have children you can plan on doing some things with or without them. Get a sitter the night before you want to go for a picnic breakfast or downtown. Or take them on the nature walks with you. If it's too much to have children with you, plan quiet time when they're asleep or, again, get a baby sitter.

  • Don't let too much time pass before trying to actively try to re-connect with your spouse or lover. Once you two drift too far apart, it may be very difficult or impossible to get your relationship back on track.
