Here is an article on how to diagnose if all burners are non operational. This is a second part to how to repair an electric element. In this article it is assumed none of the burners are working.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • voltmeter.screwdriver set,various parts depending on diagnosis
Step1
First unplug appliance. If unit is a counter top cook top shut circuit breaker off and make sure it goes to cook top
Step2
Remove back panel and check for burnt wires. If wires are burnt replace cord and chances are you have fixed your problem. But before jumping ahead plug unit in to test.
Step3
If you do not find any broken or burnt wires plug unit in and test across all wires to see if there is electricity. The two outside wires will read 220,240,210 or 219 on your voltmeter set on ac scale
The middle and any one of the outside wires needs to read 110,120,or 115
Step4
If you don't get a proper reading with the appliance plugged in a leg from the breaker may be bad you may need to consult an electrician
