The holiday is soon approaching and how will you celebrate it? I will give you some ideas that may help give you some more time with your family before they are remembering you on Memorial Day!
How Memorial Day started. Though some people think it's a day to honor any and all dead, Memorial Day is intended to honor those who have given their lives in military service. It is and was created primarily to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live free and enjoy the good live that we so relish today.
I respect and appreciate all the things that the service men and women have done for our great country, God Bless you all.
Step2
Place your flowers at the cemetery, but honestly I would bet if the deceased had a bit of advise for the living they would tell you to spend as much "quality time" with your family when the kids are growing up. When they grow up and move out the time they spend with the parents is considerably less.
Step3
Check the weather, load up your gear and go camping. It is an excellent way to spend family time. Leave the TV behind and enjoy some fresh air and peace and quiet. It never fails as it usually rains on Memorial Day so make sure you have enough clothes and dress for the weather. When my kids were little I packed everything into the trunk of a compact car and the stuffed sleeping bags around the kids and went camping for the weekend. I've pitched tents in the pouring rain and have had to pound stakes back into the ground during a thunderstorm but those were some of the best memories with my kids and I still laugh about the fun we had.
Tips & Warnings
A battery powered weather radio to alert for severe weather could be a life saver.
Staying at KOA campgrounds will add a level of security and warm showers (they also have swimming pools)
Check over your equipment before leaving, blow up air mattresses, air out sleeping bags and set up tent to make sure everything is there and working correctly
Make sure you bring enough food, preparing food that you only need to add water will save space in your cooler
Before you make a fire make sure it is in a safe location and is put out before you leave or go to sleep.
Keep an eye on your kids so they don't get into trouble
Keep ice on food in the cooler that needs to be cold to prevent food poisoning
Always get permission before camping on private property
