Things You'll Need:
- Ready Strip Deck Stripper
- Sander
- Plastic Scraper
- Garden Sprayer
- Stain
- Polyurethane
- Applicator/Brush
- Scouring Pad
- Vapor Mask
-
Step 1
Sweep and mop your floors clean.
-
Step 2
Using a garden sprayer, apply Ready Strip Deck Stripper to section of the floor.
-
Step 3
Let the stripper work for the recommended time. This chemical stripper will melt away the old finish and actually remove stains.
-
Step 4
Next using a large plastic chemical resistant scraper, begin scrapping the finish off of the floor.
-
Step 5
Next use a spray bottle to spray water onto the surface and use a scouring pad to remove any left over residue and stain. Wipe the area with a damp rag.
Now move on to another section of the floor and repeat the previous steps until the entire floor is free of the old finish and stain. -
Step 6
Allow floors to dry. Water raises the grain of the wood so lightly sand the entire floor with a fine sand paper.
-
Step 7
Vacuum or sweep up dust and use a rag slightly dampened with mineral spirits to remove remaining dust.
-
Step 8
Finally apply a stain and finish using a brush or applicator pad.
Wear a hairnet to prevent any hair from fall to the floor. -
Step 9
Great we're done! Any self starter should have no problem doing this job.
The materials are fairly inexpensive and with a little patience you will have a quality floor you can be proud to show.
