So you receive a ticket in the mail about a situation that didn't ever happen, what is your recourse, pay it, NO FIGHT BACK. Do not just pay the ticket that someone else got while using your car or whatever the reason, I'll tell you how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Time
  • Internet Access
  • A phone
  • Determination
Step1
So you just got a ticket in the mail, a parking ticket is what we will be dealing with here. But this could be used for a range of other citations.

This will involve a little personal story of my own. I sold a car with an old set of temp plates on it that had expired, I didn't think twice about it until I started getting tickets.

Step one, don't get yourself worked up, being pissed off usually is not worth it.
Step2
Look at the ticket. Get all the information you need and a highlighter and start highlighting. Ticket number, date, location, issuing authority, phone number(if on the ticket)
Step3
Call the issuing authority and tell them the situation. Sometimes as with my first parking ticket they will drop it right then. Sometimes not. Just be nice on the phone with the issuing authority, yelling at them(even when they tell you to just pay it) will not help.
Step4
If you have a court date on the ticket and can go without spending any money, go, tell the judge what happened, even if they tell you you'll have to pay, its not over.
Step5
So you called, went to court yelled at whoever got the ticket and you feel there is nothing else to do but to pay the ticket, wrong. Start doing some research online.

You will need to find out who your state representative and state senator are. From there start making phone calls. Tell them the situation and what the issuing authority has done so far.

They will tell you to write them a letter. (guess what the next step is)
Step6
Write that letter, make it universal to both the Senator and Rep. just change names and addresses as needed. Why BOTH of them, the likelihood of the matter being resolved increases if you have 2 teams working on your side. Send a copy of the tickets and any information you have, the government can help you, In my case the state rep handled all my issues from 300+ miles from where I lived as opposed to where the ticket was issued.
Step7
Most likely if you have a genuine case that you didn't deserve a ticket that someone else was so kind to have stuck you with, you can escape with little more than some time invested
Step8
Thanks for looking, rate this article and tell your friends about it

Tips & Warnings

  • Politicians can help you
