Use the Listening Center in Your Classroom

Get ready to meet your new best friend: the cordless listening center! I have been using the listening center for my center time activities for over 10 years. The regular (with cords) listening center is a great tool, but the cordless listening center is a fantastic tool.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy the Califone cordless listening center which will include the receiver and six headphones. Make sure your receiver is not the same frequency (color coded) as your neighbor.

  2. Step 2

Place the receiver next to whatever audio device you will be running your listening center from. It will hook up to any device with a headphone jack including tape players, boom boxes, CD players, iPods and computers.

  3. Step 3

Buy an extra AC adapter when you buy the listening center so that you can keep both the headphone charger and the receiver plugged in at all times.

  4. Step 4

Find or build a place to store the headphones, preferably out of the kids' reach.

  5. Step 5

Create activities for the kids to do other than reading along with books.

  6. Step 6

Properly use the listening center in your classroom and it will be like having another adult in the room at all times.
