The purpose of this experiment is to track the flow of cold water through warm water. This is a very visual experiment that the kids love. This shows the kids that cold water sinks in warmer water. Here is how to do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A large jar
  • A small paper cup
  • Food coloring
  • Water
  1. Step 1

    Fill the large jar with warm water.

  2. Step 2

    Poke some evenly spaced holes at the bottom of the paper cup for the water to flow through.

  3. Step 3

    Place ice cubes in the cup and place the cup into the warm water.

  4. Step 4

    Wait one minute and then add some food coloring to the warm water in the jar and watch the cold water flow out of the cup. This shows the kids that cold water sinks in warmer water.

  • Try this out once before you do it with the kids.
