Removing weight is an easy way to increase the fuel efficiency and performance of a motor vehicle. It is surprising how fast one can remove weight from a car. 100 pounds could easily be removed from a car without any structural or engine modifications.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • a car
  • a wrench
  • a hex wrench
  • pliers
  • socket wrench

Step1
Remove any large, unnecessary items from the trunk, or back seat. If you don't intend for people to see your trunk, take cosmetic items like carpeting and plastic out, leaving a relatively bare trunk.
Step2
Remove the spare wheel. Do this only if you are confident in the integrity of your tires, or you don't mind getting towed if you get a flat.
Step3
If you have a hatchback, remove the back seats. This will significantly reduce weight. mind you, there is only 1 extra seat left if you do this. The seat back seats should be pretty easy to put in if you need it.
Step4
pop the hood and take out any unnecessary plastic. Take out the engine cover, any extraneous plastic that does no good.
Step5
For further weight reduction, take out the side passenger seat.
Step6
There are many other things you can do to reduce weight but these involve the removal of cosmetic and structural parts and is not recommended.
Step7
Enjoy your lighter, faster and more fuel efficient vehicle!

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't throw the parts that you took off your car if you plan on reselling it. These parts need to be put back on before you sell it to a reseller.
  • Don't remove the A/C
  • Don't make any structural changes.
