The pork chops are hiding under there!

Pork chops and sauerkraut are a traditional dinner many people reserve for special occasions such as New Year's Day. However, this meal tastes great any time of the year and is easy to layer, put into the oven, and go about other tasks while it bakes. The pork chops covered in sauerkraut come out moist and delicious.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 to 6 pork chops (bone-in)
  • 1 can, jar, or bag of sauerkraut (28-oz)
  • 1 cup water
  • 9x13 baking dish (I prefer glass)
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Aluminum foil
  • Oven
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Step 2

In your 9x13 baking dish, place the pork chops side-by-side. Using sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, season to taste.

  3. Step 3

Cover the pork chops with a nice layer of sauerkraut, including the juices, edge to edge.

  4. Step 4

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and seal tightly around the edges.

  5. Step 5

Bake for one hour at 350 degrees. Your pork chops will emerge from the oven moist and delicious!

Tips & Warnings
  • That's all there is to it! During the hour of baking time, I usually make mashed red potatoes with the skin on, whip up a mixed greens salad, and some green beans with almonds. No one will have room for dessert following this tasty and filling meal.
  • This is a great and easy dish for family, a potluck dinner, or for having guests over. If you're having guests, just double the recipe and use two baking dishes.

on 7/16/2009 thanks for this recipe. It seems every pork chop I make should be used as a hockey puck. I will save this recipe and maybe I can redeem myself ;-) 5* rec

on 11/9/2008 Mmm! When pork chops are juicy, they're very, very good, and when they're dry, they're horrid...saving this recipe to favorites.
