Some photos need to be tweaked before they can be sent over the Internet.

The best photograph to email or post on your blog is a photo that is small enough to be easily downloaded. Downsizing your digital photo -- without changing its dimensions -- is a snap using Microsoft's Paint program.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Paint" to open Microsoft's Paint program.

    • 2

Click the "Paint" button, indicated by a drop-down arrow to the left of the Home tab, and click "Open." Browse to the photo that you want to downsize. The image will be so large that you will likely only see a portion of the overall picture.

    • 3

Click the "Home" tab and click "Resize" in the Image grouping. A new window will open.

    • 4

Check the "Maintain aspect ratio" box to keep the length and width from skewing when you re-size the photo.

    • 5

Click the radio button next to "Percentage" and type 50 into the Horizontal field. The Vertical field will change accordingly because you checked the Maintain Aspect Ratio box. Click "OK" to see your changes.

    • 6

Repeat Steps 3 through 5 until the complete photo is small enough to appear in the Paint window. Alternatively, click the "Pixels" radio button and re-size the photo to specific dimensions.

    • 7

Click the "Paint" button again when you are happy with your picture and hover your mouse over "Save as." Select the format in which you want to save the image.

    • 8

Name the image and click "Save."
