How to Have a Healthy Relationship

We've all been there. You know, thought you'd found the right one for the rest of your life... only to find out that it was really only right now. Or you've been in the kind of relationship that you love them, or you think you do when you aren't fighting the urge to choke them. Well, here are a few tips on having a HEALTHY relationship that might keep you out of those situations in the future.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Begin with self-love. When you really like who you are, you can effectively share that with someone else.
Step2
Be sincere. Your opinion really does matter, so don't fake it or try to hide how you really feel. Let them see the REAL you, because that's who they need to fall in love with.
Step3
Talk things out. Communication is key to a healthy relationship. They won't know how you feel unless YOU tell them. None of us have mastered mind reading.
Step4
Set some time aside for yourself. You are still an individual. Not every minute should revolve around someone else or you will lose touch with yourself.
Step5
Don't force it. Don't pretend just to make someone else happy. Always meet your own expectations, never change yourself to fit someone else's needs.
Step6
Learn to laugh. Focus on the things that bring you joy and your relationship will be more pleasant and meaningful. Thing about it. Happy people are much more fun to be around.

on 4/10/2008 Excellent advice. If you start out pretending to be somebody you aren't, are you willing to sustain the pretense for the rest of your life? Ideally, you and your sweetheart should be able to be completely free and open with each other, no matter what. I really like the simplicity and cogency of your article. Thank you!
