Now that your child is beginning to grow up, maybe it is time for you to go back to work. This can be a difficult time, as it is very important that your child goes to a day care that is safe and provides great learning atmosphere for the child to continue to grow and learn. Here are a few pointers in making this decision much easier.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Choosing the right day care, the first item to consider is the rating of the day care. Day cares are rated based on a five-star system (five stars being the best). When your child is in a five star day care, they are in the best hands possible. To be a five star day care, there must be a small child to teacher ratio, a significant number of centers, and all teachers must be at minimum working towards a BA degree in education. For more info on this rating system, visit the site listed below.
Step2
The next step to look for in a day care is looking at the cleanliness of the center. Obviously, you do not want your child to go to a day care that is dirty or full of germs. Also, it is very important to make sure the day care appears to be highly organized and classrooms have ample space for child to not only play, but also to learn.
Step3
Another important aspect to look for in a day care is their preschool program goals. Many of these could be found in their mission statement, or you can obtain this information by asking a representative of the day care. You want to choose the day care that you feel best fits your child's needs.
Step4
Finally, you will need to take extra consideration if you have a child that has any kind of special needs, such as a learning disability for example. Many day cares have programs for these children that are geared to the needs of the child.

Tips & Warnings

  • When checking for cleanliness, look on top of cabinets/counters to make sure they are dust free.
  • Make sure tables and floor area is always clean. Day cares are required to immediately clean when finished at that area, such as after lunch.
  • Make sure any chemical like disinfectant spray is out of reach of the children
