Having a successful marriage is part love, work and luck. Yes, luck. Here are some helpful hints to having a successful marriage.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Respect. There must be a mutual respect for each other. Many, many marriages fail because the couple no longer respects each other.

  2. Step 2

Friendship. You must first be friends before you can even think of marriage. Your spouse must be your best friend even if you already have a BFF since kindergarten. If you can't be friends, how can you even think of being lovers?

  3. Step 3

Fidelity. Some would probably even say this should be the first step, they may be right. Infidelity will crush your marriage into smithereens. Think long and hard before you cheat on your spouse. If you are thinking about cheating, please seek marriage counseling and get to the root of your problem, it may not be your spouse but YOU. Yes, some people are just born cheaters and that's just the way it is and always will be.

  4. Step 4

Intimacy. You and your spouse need intimacy to feel connected. I strongly suggest that you do not invite others into this area of your life. This includes gossip and swinging.

  5. Step 5

Honesty. Its very important to be honest with your spouse because you are a team. It is not fair for one of the members of your team to not know everything about the marriage when it comes to finances, where you were last night and a great many other things. You will save yourself a lot of grief if you keep truthful.

  6. Step 6

Sex. You should be having sex. A sexless marriage causes a lot of resentment. You'll see that if you aren't in the mood and you go for it anyway, you are suddenly in the mood. Do it for your partner with a smile on your face. Don't make your partner feel unloved or unwanted.
