So you have tons of leaves in the fall to get rid of and you may even pay extra to have them removed but why? If you have the extra space to age them this could be some of the best garden supply that money never bought. Your garden will love you for it and become a garden of life. Feed your flowers well.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Hand shovel
  • Black contractor trash bags
  • Leaves
  • Rock or stakes

Step1
Start by gathering all of the leaves into black contractor trash bags. Squeeze the air out of the top once they are full. You may even want to lie across them as you close the top to get as much air out as you can. If they are wet this should be an easier process.
Step2
Tack down the top of the bag in a location that is out in the elements. You can use garden rocks or stakes to make sure the bags do not get away from you.
Step3
Using your trimming shears or even a small hand shovel puncture the bag in a few locations to allow air inside. Leave them alone for up to a year to fully process into compost. No turning or checking needed on your part. This does not have to be in a traditional compost pile or compost bin which makes it easier to move if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a running cycle and you will never run out of planting materials.
  • Make sure plastic bags are disposed of properly after use.
