The state of California is the perfect place for a horror-film fanatic to visit famous horror-movie locations. Many classic horror films were shot in California, making it the perfect state to stage a horror movie location road trip.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Car
  1. Step 1

Plan to start your road trip in Universal City, where you’ll visit Universal Studios. Take the studio tour for a look at some incredible movie sets, including the Psycho House and Bates Motel, which were both used in the filming of the Alfred Hitchcock’s "Psycho". You’ll also get a chance to see The Court of Miracles, a famous historical set where classic movie monsters have made an appearance over the years. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1923), "Frankenstein" (1931) and "The Vampire Bat" (1933) are just a few classic horror movies that have been filmed there over the years.

  2. Step 2

Make your next stop South Pasadena for a look at the famous Myers’ house used for the filming of "Halloween" in 1978. This creepy looking house is where the young Michael Myers commits his first murder in the film. Several local neighborhoods were used as filming locations, and you can still see a resemblance between how some of those neighborhoods look today and how they looked when the film was shot in the late 1970s.

  3. Step 3

Plan to make Bodega Bay your final stop on your trip. Alfred Hitchcock’s "The Birds" was filmed here, and you can view Potter School (now a private residence) and stop by the Tides Wharf Restaurant, which was used for the gas station, café and boat dock scenes in the film. And be sure to take a drive along Bay Hill Road to recreate one of the film’s opening scenes where Tippi Hendren is driving into Bodega Bay.

  4. Step 4

Go online, map out each destination in order, book nearby hotels and then hit the road to enjoy your horror-movie location vacation.
