Things You'll Need:
- Baby bodysuits
- Knit fabric
- Snaps in various sizes
- Snap setting tool
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Thread
- Fabric marking pen
-
Step 1
Purchase snaps in various sizes, testing them out on your baby’s bodysuits to see that they will work with the bodysuits’ existing snaps. Different clothing brands often use different sized snaps.
-
Step 2
Cut the knit fabric into 4-by-4-½-inch rectangles, making sure you have an even number of rectangles.
-
Step 3
Pin two rectangles together, right sides together. Sew the rectangles together with a ¼-inch seam and leave a small opening for turning the fabric.
-
Step 4
Turn the fabric rectangle right side out then slip stitch the opening closed.
-
Step 5
Top-stitch the rectangle, stitching close to the edge of the rectangle.
-
Step 6
Mark dots on one end of the rectangle to indicate where you will affix the snap sockets. You will want to match these up with one of the bodysuits to ensure a perfect fit. Follow your snap setting-tool directions to affix the snap sockets to the fabric rectangle.
-
Step 7
Turn over the fabric rectangle so the sockets face your work surface then mark dots on the opposite end to indicate where you will affix the snap studs. Follow your snap setting-tool directions to affix the snap studs to the fabric rectangle.
-
Step 8
Test the bodysuit extender on a few of your baby’s bodysuits, then make more extenders using other snap sizes to fit other bodysuits in your baby’s wardrobe.
