Boiled eggs are not only breakfast foods but they are also party and picnic appetizers. Once boiled, they can be difficult to peel without breaking them apart or having the egg fall into pieces. Follow these directions the next time you have quite a few eggs to peel; they will lose their shells quickly.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dozen eggs
  • Pot
  • Water
  • 1 Tbsp. of white vinegar
  • Salt
Step1
Fill your pot with enough water to cover the eggs and add a pinch of salt and a Tbsp. of white vinegar. Place the eggs in the pot carefully. Bring the water to a boil and cook the eggs for seven minutes. Turn off and let the eggs sit for another three minutes.
Step2
Pour off the water in the pot and run the eggs under cold water for a few minutes. Take each egg and crack it on the side of the pot, rotating it to make sure you crack the shell all over.
Step3
Hold the egg under the running cold water and begin to peel the egg. You will find that the shell comes away from the egg easily. Run the egg under the water as a final washing to remove any tiny pieces of shell that remain.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fresh eggs will peel with more difficulty than a slightly older egg. Fresh laid eggs cling to the shell more, but after a few days there develops a small gas layer between the egg white and the shell.
