Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Devote a weekend for the entire family to spend going through possessions and purging things that they no longer need. This includes toys, clothes and anything else. Get some storage boxes or baskets that you can slide under the bed or place on closet shelves to help organize things that you keep. Decide where all of your things belong.
Step2
Make your bed and start a load of laundry each morning when you get out of bed. Put any dirty clothes that didn't fit in the washing machine in a basket next to it.
Step3
Decide on dinner plans in the morning before leaving the house. If you need to set something out to defrost, chop up some vegetables or marinate some meat, this is the time to get it done. Then, in the evening, you will only need to cook everything.
Step4
Have children do their homework when they get home from school. Have a snack and a drink ready for them. They are probably hungry and will be able to complete homework better and faster if they get some nourishment. After homework time, have your children put their homework away and put their backpack where they won't forget it in the morning.
Step5
Put the clothes that you washed this morning in the dryer. They will be dry soon and you can fold and put them away either before or after dinner.
Step6
Clean up the kitchen immediately after dinner. If you use a dishwasher, empty it before dinner so that it will be ready for the dinner dishes. If you hand wash your dishes, have a sink full of hot soapy water in which to place your dirty dishes so they will be easy to clean. It will be much nicer to wake up in the morning to a clean kitchen than a dirty one.
Step7
Arrange for everyone in the family to clean up before bedtime. This can be a timed activity, based on how many people are in the family and how messy the house is. It may surprise you how quickly everyone puts things away when they are running around getting it done together.
