Step 1
Release your back foot from your snowboard's binding.
-
Step 2
Practice moving on your board with your back foot out of the binding before attempting to get in line. On a flat surface, use your free foot to push yourself forward, as if you were on a skateboard.
-
Step 3
Slowly approach the end of the chairlift line. It's difficult to stop with one foot out of the binding so stay in control of your speed.
-
Step 4
Place your free foot on your snowboard's stomp pad while you are standing still in line. This will keep your knees from getting sore.
-
Step 5
Decide where you want to sit on the chairlift before you're first in line. Most lifts accommodate two to six people. You don't want to be scrambling to find a place to sit as the lift comes up behind you.
-
Step 6
Look over your shoulder at the chairlift as it comes up behind you. Hold one of your hands at your thigh so you can feel exactly how high the lift is as it bumps you.
-
Step 7
Bend your knees as soon as you feel the chairlift and sit down. Immediately scoot as far back as you can in the chair.
-
Step 8
Support your snowboard with your free foot after you are situated on the chairlift. Once everyone is seated, lower the chairlift's bar if it has one.
