Step 1
Do back exercises to strengthen your back muscles. Often, an improperly supported back will hurt. You can ask your doctor for back strengthening exercises or look for some using the Internet. Swim for exercise as well. This will also strengthen core muscles and help support your back.
-
Step 2
Practice stretching to relieve tension caused by tight muscles. If there's a yoga class nearby, consider going. Stretches such as yoga can be very beneficial for people with pain, but you should learn them from a professional. Make stretching a part of your daily routine.
-
Step 3
Learn proper positions to use when lifting heavy objects. Improper lifting is a very common cause of back pain.
-
Step 4
Try meditation and get a massage to reduce stress levels. People experiencing high levels of stress often unconsciously contract muscle groups, causing aches and pains. Try getting a reflexology massage as well. This will target pressure points that can relieve pain in specific areas.
-
Step 5
Visit a chiropractor. A misalignment of the spine or hips can cause pain, but a good chiropractor can improve the misalignment in just a few visits.
-
Step 6
Try applying heat or ice to the area. Try one, and then try the other a few days later. Continue using the one that did the best job lessening the pain. If you find that the heat helped, take warm baths or use a hot tub if you have access to one.

Step 7
Consider visiting an acupuncturist. If this seems strange to you, research it on the Internet, try to find other people who have had it done and ask about their experience with it.
