How to Reduce Sweating From Gym Class

Sweating during physical exercise is not only normal, but it is healthy. Sweating is the body's way of cooling itself off. Some people sweat more than others. The amount that you sweat is largely determined by heredity, diet and hormone levels. However, it can also be effected by certain diseases and conditions as well as various medications.

Instructions

    • 1

Modify your diet to reduce the amount of sweating that you experience in gym. Reduce the amount of complex carbohydrates, fat and salt that you consume. These foods all contribute to increased sweating. Increase the amount of calcium in your diet to decrease the amount that you sweat. Drinking sage tea also reduces sweating.

    • 2

Wash under your arms before gym class. Although sweat does not have an odor on it's own, it can take on an unpleasant odor when it comes in contact with bacteria on your skin surface. Removing bacteria from under your arms makes your sweat smell less.

    • 3

Apply deodorant after washing your arm pits.

    • 4

Wear appropriate clothing for gym. Cotton is your best choice. It is a natural fiber that allows your skin to breathe. Dress in layers if the gym is cold so you can remove the outer layers as you get moving and your body heats up.

    • 5

Pace yourself when you are exercising. Take breaks to allow yourself to cool down.

Tips & Warnings

  • After gym class is over, it is a good idea to take a shower. If you do not have time to take a shower, wash under your arms again and then re-apply deodorant.

  • Drink plenty of water whenever you sweat to avoid dehydration. Do not wait until you feel thirsty to drink. When you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. Have a drink of water before and after gym class.
