Decorating your room is usually very satisfying, especially when you get it all done, the room is clean and everything looks great. However, it can get messy again very quickly, thereby ruining the new look. Follow these steps to decorate your room and then keep it picked up.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a theme or style for your room. Next, pick out paint colors, if you are going to also spruce up your room with fresh paint.

  2. Step 2

Sort through everything that you have in your room, and only keep the things without which you absolutely can't live. The most common cause of a chronically untidy room is simply having too much stuff.

  3. Step 3

Go shopping for new decorations and accessories for your room. Look for storage containers that will tie in with your new décor. You can find storage boxes in nearly any color that you may need. Think of spaces where you could place a storage box or basket such as on closet shelves and under your bed. Remember to get an attractive laundry hamper.

  4. Step 4

Finish decorating your room and placing storage compartments in various areas of your room. Put everything where it goes. If it still seems that you don't have enough space for all of your belongings, you may need to get rid of some more items.

  5. Step 5

Tidy up your room every evening before you go to bed. Keep things off the floor. If you are not accustomed to keeping your room tidy, this may take some getting used to. Introduce it as a part of your normal evening routine, and it will become easier to do.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make your bed every morning when you get up.
  • Avoid putting things on surfaces such as your dresser, desk or beside table. This will look very messy. As an alternative, place an attractive small basket or storage box on surfaces if you need a place to put keys, spare change and other small items.
