It's never easy to approach an acquaintance or group of friends and discover that they're ignoring you. Find ways to uncover and resolve the basic issues so you can deal with the hurt and embarrassment when a person is giving you the cold shoulder.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Discover the reason why your friend is ignoring you. Apologize if you've done something to deserve the silent treatment. Talk to him to clear the air if he's misinterpreted something you said or did.

  2. Step 2

Send an email or leave a phone message if the person won't talk to you to deal with the situation. A face-to-face confrontation may drive her away, but she can read and consider a written explanation with a level head.

  3. Step 3

Find ways to look busy if your entire group of friends is shutting you out. Wear headphones, read a book or talk to other students, for example. While it's okay to pretend you're not bothered when your friends are ignoring you, talk to a teacher or parent if their behavior turns into taunting or bullying.

  4. Step 4

Give your friend room to breathe. Let him know that you still want to be friends and that you're available to talk whenever he's ready. If you have a true friendship, you'll overcome the crisis eventually.

  5. Step 5

Hang out with your family members and other acquaintances while you wait. Consider forming new friendships with other kids (as long as you intend to continue the relationships even if the person ignoring you starts speaking to you again). This will let your friend know that you'll be okay even if she doesn't welcome you back into her life.
