Download music free and legally. Many times, sites feature a particular artist's song catalogs for free. Check out the offerings from Download.com, which gives artists a platform to give out tracks and albums for free (see Resources below).

Compare prices of songs and albums. If you're looking for a one time download, you can look at the posted prices at several different sites to see the best price. Amazon typically offers a cheaper price for songs and albums.

Find out if your school offers a discount music download program. Many college campuses give their students a chance to get songs for their iPod at a fraction of normal prices. If you attend a university, check if you're school offers this service.
