How to Create a 3D Space Picture
Most kids run across the need to create a 3D model of space for school before they get out of middle school. Most parents get roped into assisting with these projects. If you're like me, you want all the help that you can get being smarter than your school-aged child.
Things You'll Need
- Newspaper
- Square of heavy cardboard
- Glue
- Tape
- Cardboard tubes
- Small paper sacks
- Paint
- Clear coat varnish or fixative
Instructions

1
Lay out some of the newspaper on your work surface. Place the heavy cardboard on top of your now protected work surface.
-
2
Using glue and tape, affix crumpled newspaper, partially inflated paper sacks and cardboard tubes to the heavy cardboard sheet. Before you permanently glue your objects to your cardboard, ensure they are laid out in the order and design you want.

3
Wait for the glue to dry. Until your model is securely glued together you can't continue working with it. Depending upon the type of glue used, it may take up to 24 hours for your model to dry.
-
4
Paint your model. The bland cardboard colored model you now have is ready to come alive. Paint the heavy cardboard square a dark blue or black to set up the planets and shapes you have affixed to your background.
-
5
Spray fixative or clear coat over the entire project after it has dried. This will help prevent the paint from chipping or being rubbed off as your 3D space model is appreciated by others.

Tips & Warnings
Use craft or school glue, rather than super glue, to affix your space junk.
You can suspend your planets and objects from the heavy cardboard sheet with string, if you want your 3D model to function like a mobile.
Use spray paints in a well ventilated area.
