Things You'll Need:
- 4 officials
- 2 soccer teams
- Stopwatch
- Soccer ball
- Soccer field
-
Step 1
Study the rules of the game of soccer. First, there are 2 periods, each 45 minutes in length. Each period is a "half."
-
Step 2
Learn about continuous play. There is no break when the ball goes out of bounds—the clock runs continuously. The clock only stops for the 15-minute break at half-time.
-
Step 3
Watch the referee—he will have a stopwatch. The referee will look at his stopwatch when there is an injury and calculate how much time elapses. The clock continues to run even when there is an injury.
-
Step 4
Chart the actual time of the game. You do this by setting the stopwatch to stop after 90 minutes. Full-time is the 90-minute time span.
-
Step 5
Make allowances for substitutions into the match. Other stoppages include out of bounds balls, penalties and penalty kicks. This time is tacked on to the end of the match with continuous play.
-
Step 6
Write down the amount of minutes the referee signals to the fourth official. The fourth official will notify the players by holding up a board with the number of added minutes.
-
Step 7
Check your stopwatch and see if the referee calls the end of the game at the same time you do. All extra time is at the referee's discretion.
