The yo-yo is one of the most successful toys ever created. Yo-yo tricks like rock-the-baby have fascinated and entertained people for decades. The rock-the-baby yo-yo trick is one of the basic moves that leads into more advanced yo-yo tricks.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get the yo-yo spinning at the bottom of the string. This gives the yo-yo the potential energy which will be used later.

  2. Step 2

Put your opposite hand half way down the string. This will become the pivot for the motion. The palm of the hand should face the body and the string should be between the hand and the body.

  3. Step 3

Move the yo-yo holding hand down and around the opposite hand and grab the string a few inches above the spinning yo-yo. Rock the string forward to get a good grip.

  4. Step 4

Raise the yo-yo above the opposite hand. Be sure to keep the fingers pointing forward. The loop forms the cradle. Spread the cradle as wide a possible with the fingers of the opposite hand.

  5. Step 5

Swing the yo-yo in and out of the cradle in a rocking motion. This sets the cradle rocking.

  6. Step 6

Drop the opposite hand out of the cradle position and the yo-yo will swing down freely and be available for the next yo-yo trick.
